The second meeting of the partners and the Core Team of the project ZagEE –Zagreb, Energy Efficient City was held on Thursday, December 12, 2013 in the offices of the City Office for Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development.

The project coordinator is the City of Zagreb, City Office for Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development, while the North-west Croatia Regional Energy Agency (REGEA) is a partner on the project. The meeting was attended by the members of the project Core team which includes the City Office for Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development, North-west Croatia Regional Energy Agency (REGEA), City Office for Physical Planning, Construction of the City, Utility Services and Transport, Service for Local Self-Government, City Office for Financing, City Office for Public Procurement, City Office for Strategic Planning and Development and City Office for Education, Culture and Sport.

The meeting started by an address of the Head of the City Office for Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development, Mr. Marijan Maras, who also gave a brief overview of the project and the work package 1 „Project Management“. After the introductory speech, there followed detailed presentations of specific project work packages concerning the tasks they contain, the activities undertaken and the expected results.

The activities undertaken and results expected as part of work package 2 (WP2) „ Buildings register and database“ were presented by Mr. Damir Lončarić from the City Office for Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development and Mr Hrvoje Maras from REGEA. The work packages 3 (WP3) „Refurbishment of public buildings“ , WP 5 „Communication and capacity building“ and WP 6 „Presentation of the communication plan and dissemination materials“ were presented by Mrs. Melita Borić from the City Office for Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development, while the work package 4 (WP 4) was presented by Mr. Ivan Babić from the City Office for Physical Planning, Construction of the City, Utility Services and Transport.

After the presentations on the project work packages, Mr. Marijan Maras presented the ZagEE Program, stressing that the program represents the phase 1 of the realization of the program of energy refurbishment of buildings and public lighting owned by the City of Zagreb which pertains to a complete energy refurbishment of selected unsatisfactorily efficient public buildings owned by the City of Zagreb and the modernization of a part of the public lighting system and the implementation of renewable energy sources.

The meeting ended with a presentation held by Mrs. Borić on the implementation of the ZagEE Program in 2014, the tasks and deadlines that need to be completed by the next project team meeting.

The most important goal of the ZagEE project is the implementation of energy efficiency measures and renewable energy sources in the buildings owned by the City of Zagreb. The project ZagEE shall mark the beginning of specific activities of the City of Zagreb in the aim of fulfilling the obligations undertaken as part of the Covenant of Mayors initiative and the development of the Sustainable Energy Action Plan (SEAP). The ambitious plan of renovating 87 public buildings shall result in high energy savings (an average of 49%) as well as better working conditions for their users. The expected 72% savings in public lighting also presents an ambitious goal.
